Jessica Matthews, MS, E-RYT500, is an award-winning and industry leading fitness and wellness educator. As a seasoned yoga teacher and innovative college professor, she has developed and implemented graduate degree programs as well as comprehensive yoga teacher training programs at the college level, in addition to teaching a variety of associate, undergraduate, and graduate-level health, wellness, and exercise science courses. Jessica serves as assistant professor at Point Loma Nazarene University where she developed the online Master of Kinesiology in Integrative Wellness program. She is also a senior advisor for the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the world’s leading non-profit health and fitness education, certification and training organization. Through her work with ACE Jessica develops and delivers educational content for exercise professionals and health coaches in the form of articles, videos online courses and textbooks, including serving as the lead author and editor for the ACE Group Fitness Instructor Handbook: The Professional’s Guide to Creating Memorable Movement Experiences.
A sought-after and trusted media resource, Jessica regularly contributes as a fitness and wellness expert to numerous publications and media outlets, including, but not limited to, CNN, The Washington Post, Women’s Health, Men’s Fitness, The New York Times, and NPR. A recognized leader and mentor in the field, Jessica was named the 2017 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year for her superior instructional abilities and positive influence with her local community and the global health and fitness industry.
Jessica holds a bachelors degree in physical education teacher education from Coastal Carolina University where she graduated at the top of her class. She also holds as a masters degree in physical education from Canisius College where she was named to the inaugural Griffs Under 40, a list of notable alumni under the age of 40 who are recognized innovators in their respective fields. She is currently completing a doctorate in behavioral health with a focus on clinical integrated care through Arizona State University, working within the UC San Diego Center for Integrative Medicine.
A board certified health coach, personal trainer and group fitness instructor, as well as an experienced registered yoga teacher, Jessica is passionate about inspiring others to live most optimally—physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually—while also serving the greater good. As such, Jessica guides donation-based oceanfront yoga classes in San Diego, California in which 100% of proceeds from every class are donated to various non-profit organizations that speak to her heart.
