What are superfoods?

Superfruits, supergranins e superfoods: what are they and why are they good for our body

In recent years, the interest regarding the so-called "superfoods" has grown exponentially. Superfoods are foods of plant origin, rich in nutritional properties for our body . The term "super" is related to the high amounts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients essential for our body health. These foods are often rich in antioxidants, molecules capable of defending the body from the damaging effects caused by free radicals. Furthermore, they are a great option for those following a low-calorie diet because the high nutritional properties are often compensated by very low calories. 
 
Superfoods can be divided into three categories: 
 
a. Superfruits: which, as the name suggests, include fruit, 
 
b. Supergrains: which include cereals and grains, 
 
c. Superfoods: which groups foods that are not part of the categories listed above.
