7 April is World Health Day
The right amount of physical activity, a healthy and balanced diet, proper rest and a little meditation: here are 4 pillars for feeling good about yourself.
"Health for all" is the key message that World Health Day wants to spread in the occasion of its 75th anniversary.
Health is a concept that unifies an increasing number of people, who more and more want to include their well-being in the list of priorities.
How do you measure your well-being and what are the pillars of feeling good?
First of all, we know that regular physical activity is proven to improve quality of life and well-being. An active lifestyle helps to prevent diseases and hypertension, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several cancers; it also beneficial to maintain healthy body weight and improve mental health.
An healthy and balanced approach to food and nutrition is just as important to feeling good and consuming every day the right amount of macro and micro nutrients, able to give us the energy we need to face the day, is always a golden rule. The World Health Organization suggest to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables per day to gain vitamines and ingredients helpful for body and mind.
Sleep quality is another pillar to take control of. Most adults need somewhere between seven and nine hours a night to wake up feeling well-rested. Quantity is important but so is quality: the quality of your sleep ensures that you get the essential physical, mental, and emotional benefits you need from your slumber.
Tha last, but definetely not the least: mindfullness. The interest about meditation has grown considerably in the last years. From the Latin word meditatio, it is a practice that allows us to focus on a single thought, removing any form of negativity from the external environment.
When we meditate, we inject far-reaching and long-lasting benefits into our lives: we lower our stress levels, we get to know our pain, we connect better, we improve our focus, and we're kinder to ourselves.
Physical activity, nutrition, sleep quality and mindfullness: you don’t need more to feel good! Take care of yourself and keep this quote in your mind: your health is the most important thing in your life!
